2004
was the first journey into the Arctic Winter Games for the Sami people.
They sent a small contingent to participate in cross-country skiing,
biathlon, snowshoeing and cultural activities.
The Sami people are the indigenous peoples of northern Scandinavia. They spread out among four countries: Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia in traditional lands. The Sami speak as many as seven distinct dialects with four predominantly spoken in Norway.
