The combination of two very contradictory disciplines, skiing or snowshoeing, and shooting, in the same competition confronts an athlete with a very demanding challenge. Cross-country or snowshoe racing requires intense, full out physical exertion over an extended period of time while shooting demands extremely fine control and stability. When athletes arrive at the shooting range, they have to shoot at a very small target, with a racing heartbeat and heaving chest because the clock is running even while they are shooting.
Snowshoe Biathlon: is a sport, which combines competitive snowshoeing and small-bore rifle marksmanship. The word competition is used in Biathlon instead of race because it is not only a race but a combination of two different competitive activities. Snowshoe Biathlon has been a selected sport in since the 3rd Arctic Winter Games, hosted in Anchorage, Alaska in 1974. We are expecting teams from Alaska, Yukon, NWT, and Nunavik.
Ski Biathlon: Ski biathlon is a sport, which combines competitive,
free-technique cross-country skiing and small-bore rifle marksmanship.
It made it’s debut in the 1986 Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse,
Yukon. We are expecting competitors from Alaska, Alberta North, Yukon,
NWT, Sami, and Yamal.
