Speed skating has been a staple sport in the Arctic Winter Games since
1984 when they made their first appearance the Games held here in Yellowknife,
NWT. Because the corners are tight and it can be difficult for skaters
to maintain control, the boards must be covered by protective mats attached
to the boards as well as to each other. We expect athletes from
Alaska, Alberta North, Yukon, Nunavut, and NWT.
